Another generation of Barn Swallows has fledged…Every year local swallows return to nests in the rafters of the porch here on the square in Blanco. It’s always gratifying to see the young ones take flight in a seasonal cycle that has been going on for as many years as any of us here can remember…

About the Artist:

I have been going into the Big Bend country for almost 40 years. I first saw it in 1978. My first look at the Chihuahuan desert was the Burro Mesa and Chimneys area of Big Bend National Park. Since most of this desert is located in Mexico, Big Bend represents the largest protected portion of the Chihuahuan desert in the United States and is the reason I go to West Texas. In my opinion there is a beauty in the desert that is best seen in black and white images. This series of photographs covers only a very small section of the Big Bend country, it begins in Terlingua and ends at Santa Elena Canyon.
