Art at Redbud Cafe
Now showing: Hep Cat Tails of the Strange
We are delighted to feature the work of Lisa McPike Smith, local ceramic artist.
About the Artist
My latest ceramic series, Hep Cat Tails of the Strange, is meant to cause a visceral response about current events and how they affect women across the globe. Often portrayed as femme fatales, warriors, goddesses, or ocean and earth dwellers, my “girls” have a silent strength behind eyes that have seen enough.
Exposing injustices by pushing boundaries in my current work should insight conversations so that we, as a society, can engage and learn to eradicate atrocious behaviors. Art, music, theater, and journalism can lead the way in such discussions.
I received my BFA in Studio Art from SWTSU in 1992 with a concentration in ceramic technology. I continue to work in clay and have added assemblage processes to both my ceramic and found object pieces.
As always, Lisa’s work will be on display and available for purchase at Brieger Pottery and on the wall at Redbud Cafe as well, through the end of May.
